This image presents a glimpse into the chaotic yet captivating tradition atop Funchal, Madeira. Dating back to the 1850s is a tradition featuring pairs of 'Carreiros', who run tourists downhill in wicker sledges. The tradition was once used by locals to travel down the mountains and into the city below. I longed to preserve the detail of the Carreiro attire, showing every crease available in the clothing following multiple runs throughout the day. This detail continues to hold up in print.
